Damascus, Syria – The Syrian army announced on Friday that it had detected movements by members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
It stated that these elements were attempting to undermine the agreement reached earlier
that day regarding the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in Aleppo.
This prompted the army to take urgent measures in preparation for a possible military operation within the neighborhood.
Cairo News Channel quoted its correspondent in Damascus as saying that the Syrian army had set a final deadline. A two-hour period was given for the evacuation of civilians from the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. The deadline began shortly before and will extend until 6:00 PM local time.
This step aims to protect the residents and spare them any potential harm. This would be the case if a military operation is carried out in the area.
The report indicated that these developments reflect a significant escalation in tensions. This comes after accusations that some parties reneged on the understandings reached earlier.
He noted that buses entered the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood twice
in the past few hours as part of efforts to evacuate civilians.
However, the operation was not completed due to what field sources described
as the presence of “hardliners” from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
These elements refuse to leave the neighborhood, thus hindering the implementation of the agreement.
Informed sources suggested that these contacts, along with other regional and local channels of communication, could contribute to reviving the agreement.
They might also lead to a final formula that guarantees the withdrawal of armed groups and prevents a potential military confrontation.
This would ensure the safety of civilians and maintain stability in Aleppo.
