Amsterdam, Netherlands — Amsterdam’s Schiphol International Airport experienced widespread disruption to air traffic. More than 700 flights were canceled due to heavy snowfall. A severe winter weather wave hit the country in recent hours.
The airport administration announced that the snowstorm caused a significant drop in visibility and accumulation of snow on runways. As a result, authorities had to suspend a large number of flights to ensure the safety of passengers and flight crews. Departure and arrival schedules were also affected. This caused confusion among travelers.
The Schiphol administration added that emergency teams are working around the clock to clear the snow. They are operating de-icing equipment and emphasizing that the resumption of air traffic depends on improvements in the weather. Stabilization of climatic conditions is also necessary.
Meanwhile, airlines have urged passengers to follow flight updates through official channels. They advised them not to head to the airport before confirming the revised schedules. At the same time, the Dutch Meteorological Agency warned that the cold and snowy wave is expected to continue in the coming days. This could lead to further disruptions in both air and ground transportation.
