The Syrian Ministry of Defense stated on Tuesday that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continued their military escalation against Syrian army positions and civilians in Aleppo province for the third consecutive day. This resulted in deaths and injuries and exacerbated security tensions in several neighborhoods of the city.
In an official statement, the ministry explained that the SDF targeted a Syrian army position in the vicinity of the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood. The attack resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to five others. The ministry’s media and communications department added that army units responded to the sources of fire, targeting SDF drone launch sites and neutralizing several of them, in addition to destroying an ammunition depot.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense accused the SDF of attempting to sabotage the March 10th agreement. It asserted that the SDF “is once again demonstrating its lack of commitment to the agreement and is trying to drag the army into an open confrontation, choosing its own battlefield and timing.”
In response, the SDF stated that a shell fired by factions affiliated with the Damascus government landed in the al-Midan neighborhood. It described the shelling as “indiscriminate and a direct attack on residential areas, endangering the lives of civilians.”
For its part, the Aleppo Media Directorate told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had committed a new violation of the signed agreements. This violation occurred when they targeted the area near the Shihhan roundabout, resulting in the death of one member of the Ministry of Defense and injuries to three others. The Directorate called on citizens to stay away from the front lines and to disperse gatherings in the vicinity of the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods. It also urged them to cooperate with the Internal Security Forces and the police to regulate traffic and secure the city.
Earlier, the Syrian Ministry of Defense had accused the SDF of shelling a military police position in Deir Hafer, resulting in injuries to three personnel. The SDF denied these accusations, describing them as fabricated. Meanwhile, AFP reported that five people were killed in clashes between government forces and Kurdish forces in northern Aleppo.
