Istanbul, Turkey – A horrific traffic accident occurred in Istanbul last night. The accident, which resulted in casualties and injuries, took place when a minibus veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch (valley) in the Yeşilkent district.

The accident occurred at approximately 5:10 PM, when the driver, Niyazi Çelik, was driving the bus along Nazim Hikmet Street. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to suddenly veer off the road and plunge into a ditch.

The force of the impact led to catastrophic results, with medical and security sources reporting:
Deaths: 5 people were killed, including the bus driver, Niyazi Celik, and passengers Ahmet Kandemir and Hacer Cekmekci.
Injuries: Six other passengers sustained varying injuries, including a child, and the condition of two of the injured was described as “very serious”.
Emergency response
Immediately after the disaster, firefighters, police, and medical teams rushed to the scene. Rescuers had to work tirelessly to extract passengers trapped in the wreckage of the bus at the bottom of the ravine. The injured were immediately transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the forensic institute for autopsy.

Police cordoned off the area. Turkish authorities launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the bus veering off the road. They are trying to ascertain whether the accident was due to a mechanical failure, human error, or road conditions.
