Paris, France – France today announced the start of construction on a new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to replace the current carrier, the Charles de Gaulle. This move reflects the strengthening of the French navy and its global projection capabilities.
The new project, dubbed the Next Generation Nuclear Aircraft Carrier, is part of France’s strategy to modernize its naval capabilities. It ensures the continuity of its nuclear deterrent, particularly in light of increasing geopolitical challenges in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The new aircraft carrier is expected to be able to transport more than 30 fighter jets. It can also carry approximately 2,000 sailors, giving France a rapid deployment capability. It will protect trade routes and vital interests.
The project also contributes to strengthening the local defense industry, with the participation of approximately 800 French companies. This supports the national economy and provides job opportunities in various technological sectors.
This move sends a clear message of French strength to the world, reaffirming Paris’s position as an influential naval nuclear power in Europe and globally. This comes at a time of rising international tensions and a growing need for strong, independent defense capabilities.
