Washington, DC – The US State Department has revealed a sharp escalation in the pace of executions in Iran. It confirmed that authorities in Tehran executed more than 17 prisoners in the past 48 hours alone, in what it described as the regime’s attempts “to create terror and silence the voices of the people.”

Highlights
  • Student executed under torture
  • Alarming figures for 2025
  • “The Crime of Silence” and the Courage of the Iranians

Student executed under torture

A report published on the ministry’s official Persian-language page highlighted the case of Aqil Keshavarz, a 27-year-old architecture student who was recently executed. The ministry asserted that Keshavarz was executed “without a fair trial.” It indicated that he was subjected to severe torture to extract confessions to what the report described as “fabricated” espionage charges.

Alarming figures for 2025

The US State Department released shocking statistics on human rights in Iran this year, reporting that more than 1,800 people have been executed since the beginning of the year.

There are also hundreds of other prisoners on execution waiting lists, including Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani and Peyman Farah Afar.

“The Crime of Silence” and the Courage of the Iranians

Washington strongly criticized the systematic execution policy, stating that “every human life taken is a crime, and every instance of international silence makes further violence possible.” The US State Department added that using the death penalty as a political tool will not break the will of the Iranian people. It praised the “courage of Iranians” who continue to express their opinions and demand their rights despite the ongoing repression.

This announcement comes at a time of increasing international pressure and condemnation from human rights organizations on Iran to halt executions. These sentences lack even the most basic standards of transparency and international law.
