Brussels, Belgium – The European Commission has announced the transfer of a mobile thermal power plant to Ukraine as part of the EU’s efforts to support the energy sector. The aim is to ensure a continuous electricity supply for approximately one million people, amidst the growing challenges facing the Ukrainian power grid.
The Commission explained that the station will be rapidly integrated into the national grid. This will contribute to increased production capacity and reduce power outages, particularly in the most affected areas. This step is part of a broader European program to support critical infrastructure in Ukraine, which includes the provision of technical equipment, mobile power stations, and backup generators.
European officials stressed that securing electricity is a humanitarian and economic priority, given its direct link to the operation of hospitals, water networks, transportation, and productive sectors. They also emphasized continued coordination with the Ukrainian side to ensure stable energy supplies in the short and medium term.
For its part, the Ukrainian government welcomed the European support. The government believes the new thermal power plant will help alleviate pressure on the electricity grid and improve the country’s ability to cope with peak demand periods, coinciding with plans to rebuild and modernize the energy sector.
