Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – Health authorities and humanitarian organizations have issued urgent warnings after hospitals in South Kivu province, eastern DRC, received nearly 100 injured people in the past few hours, amid renewed clashes and violence in the region.
Medical sources reported that most of the injured suffered severe gunshot and shrapnel wounds. This has placed immense pressure on healthcare facilities already facing critical shortages of medicine and medical supplies.
Aid organizations have confirmed that the deteriorating security situation is hindering medical teams’ access to some affected areas. They warn that the humanitarian crisis will worsen if the escalation continues, especially given the increasing number of displaced people and the lack of basic services.
The eastern regions of Congo, particularly South Kivu, have been plagued by instability for years. This is due to armed conflicts between local groups and government forces, exacerbating the suffering of civilians and threatening to ignite a wider conflict.
