Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, held in Cairo.
Lavrov arrived in Cairo on Thursday evening to participate in the conference. On Friday, he held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty. The discussions focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum will be held in Cairo on December 19 and 20. This is the first conference of its kind to be held on African soil. More than 50 African countries will participate, with broad ministerial-level representation, in addition to several heads of regional organizations.
The conference builds on the momentum established during the first ministerial conference held in Sochi, Russia, in November 2014. This year’s conference focuses on strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation. It also supports efforts toward peace, security, and stability in Africa, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
It is worth mentioning that the “Russia-Africa Partnership” forum was launched as a new framework for dialogue in 2019. It included holding two summits in Sochi in 2019 and St. Petersburg in 2023, in addition to the first ministerial conference in November 2024. This forum reflects the growing partnership between Russia and African countries in various fields.
