Waziristan, Pakistan – Pakistani security sources announced on Friday that the armed forces successfully thwarted a terrorist attack targeting a security forces battalion headquarters in the Boya area of North Waziristan. The attack resulted in the death of four militants and injuries to four security personnel.
Details of the attack
Sources reported that the attack began this morning when a suicide bomber rammed a car bomb into the outer wall of the Pouya fortress. This resulted in a powerful explosion that was heard in the city of Miranshah, located approximately 25 kilometers from the site of the attack.
She added that the explosion was intended to create a breach in the wall to allow an armed group to storm the headquarters. However, the vigilance and swift action of the security forces thwarted the attempt, according to the Pakistani newspaper Dawn.
Outcome of the confrontation
The operation resulted in the immediate deaths of three militants as they attempted to advance toward the headquarters following the explosion. A fourth militant was surrounded and killed during a subsequent security operation. Four members of the security forces were also injured during the exchange of fire. Material damage was limited to sections of the headquarters’ outer wall, with no casualties reported inside.
The sources confirmed that the gunmen belonged to the “Fitna Khawarij” group, which is the official term the state uses for the banned Pakistani Taliban (TTP) movement.
Security alert
Following the attack, security forces imposed a tight cordon around the area and launched extensive search operations to ensure it was clear of any other armed elements. Bomb disposal teams also arrived to examine the site and collect evidence, along with rescue teams and medical personnel from the emergency services (1122).
Authorities announced a heightened state of security alert across the region, with a temporary suspension of traffic on the main highway as a precautionary measure.
