Islamabad, Pakistan – An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan today. The quake prompted hundreds of residents to flee their homes for fear of further tremors.
According to local reports, residents of several cities and towns felt the earthquake almost simultaneously, particularly in areas near mountain ranges, amid widespread anxiety and anticipation. No casualties have been reported so far, and initial assessments indicate no significant damage to infrastructure.
Pakistani authorities have activated emergency teams to monitor the situation on the ground, emphasizing that monitoring operations are ongoing. This is in anticipation of possible aftershocks. Authorities also urged citizens to exercise caution and follow safety instructions.
It is worth noting that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a seismically active region. It experiences earthquakes of varying intensity from time to time. This is due to its location on active geological fault lines.
