Taiz, Yemen – A violent terrorist bombing rocked Jamal Street in the center of Taiz city on Thursday, killing and wounding civilians, including a child, in one of the most serious incidents targeting a densely populated civilian area.
Security and medical sources said the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device planted inside a battery that was covered by a solar panel. It exploded at a time that coincided with the movement of citizens and students, resulting in eight casualties, including deaths and injuries, some of whom are in critical condition.
The sources added that among the victims was a seven-year-old child who was on his way to school when the explosion occurred, which left a state of shock and sadness among the parents and residents of the area.
Following the incident, ambulances rushed to the site of the bombing, and the injured were transported to a number of hospitals in Taiz city for treatment, while security forces imposed a tight security cordon around the site and closed parts of Jamal Street to secure the area and begin investigations.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion caused material damage to a number of shops and nearby vehicles, and caused panic among passersby, especially since the explosion occurred in a vital area that witnesses active movement throughout the day.
Security authorities have launched investigations to uncover the circumstances of the bombing and identify the party responsible, amid popular demands to strengthen security measures and protect civilians from repeated attacks.
This bombing comes at a time when the city of Taiz is witnessing a worrying deterioration in security, amid the continued targeting of civilian areas, which exacerbates the suffering of the residents and threatens social stability.
