Moscow, Russia – Russian authorities announced they had thwarted an attempted aerial attack targeting the capital, Moscow. This came after they detected and intercepted two drones, which they said were launched from the Ukrainian side. The drones were dealt with before reaching the city’s critical airspace.
Local officials stated that air defense units were immediately put on alert upon detection of the two drones. They successfully shot them down in areas surrounding the capital without any reported casualties or significant material damage.
The Russian Defense Ministry added that the incident was part of a series of what it described as “provocative” attempts. It asserted that the defensive measures taken had proven effective in protecting civilian and residential buildings within Moscow.
Following the incident, authorities implemented precautionary security measures. These included a temporary suspension of air traffic at several airports in the capital. Operations were subsequently resumed gradually after the security situation was deemed stable.
In contrast, there was no immediate official response from Kyiv to the Russian announcement. Meanwhile, aerial clashes involving drones continue between the two sides, amid mutual escalation and an expansion of operations beyond the traditional front lines.
The incident reflects the ongoing security challenges facing Moscow. This comes amid official assurances of strengthening air defense and monitoring systems in anticipation of potential attacks in the coming period.
