Sydney, Australia – Australia’s Channel Seven has revealed the identity of the hero who confronted the Sydney attacker, stating that the man who tackled the assailant is a 43-year-old Muslim named Ahmed.
Ahmed’s cousin, Mustafa, told the channel in a televised interview that Ahmed was shot twice during the incident. He is scheduled to undergo surgery tonight.
He added that Ahmed is a father of two and owns a fruit shop in Sutherland. He has no experience handling weapons.
He continued that Ahmed was simply passing by when the incident occurred before deciding to intervene. He concluded, “We hope he’s okay. He’s absolutely a hero.”
When asked about his reaction to the video, the Australian Prime Minister said, “It’s the most incredible scene I’ve ever seen.”
He added, “A man walks up to a gunman who has been shooting people. He disarms him single-handedly, risking his own life to save countless others.”
He continued: “This man is a true hero, and I have no doubt that many are alive thanks to his courage.”
Jamal Rifi, an official in the Muslim community in Australia, told Sky News Arabia on Sunday that the person who prevented the shooter from completing the attack in Sydney was a Muslim.
Rifi added: “We received news moments ago that the person who prevented the shooter from completing his attack is a Muslim named Ahmed.”
The man became a “hero” after he played a key role in taking down one of the attackers.
