London, Britain – The Metropolitan Police announced on Saturday that it will not take any further action regarding allegations that former British Prince Andrew
asked one of his personal protection officers to conduct an investigation into Virginia Giuffre.
That woman had previously accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was a minor.
There is no justification for reopening the investigation
Police said in an official statement that they had conducted a “further assessment” following recent media reports,
particularly one published by the Mail on Sunday, concerning an allegation dating back to 2011.
It was reported that Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor had tasked a police protection officer
with gathering information about Geoffrey, who died by suicide last April.
London police confirmed that this assessment “did not yield
any new evidence of criminal acts or misconduct.”
She stressed that “no additional information has yet been received
that would justify reopening the investigation.”
The statement added: “In the absence of any new information,
it was decided not to take any further action.”
Police had previously announced in October that they were “seriously considering” those allegations.
This is before its current review concludes with the final closure of the file.
These developments come at a time when the British royal family
is making clear efforts to distance itself from Prince Andrew.
This is against the backdrop of his name being linked to the scandal
of the late American businessman Jeffrey Epstein.
Protecting the image of the royal institution
Last October, King Charles III decided to strip his younger brother of the title of “Prince”,
He was removed from his residence in Windsor, in a move described
as an attempt to protect the image of the royal institution.
For his part, Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor continues
to deny all the accusations leveled against him.
He has repeatedly asserted his innocence of allegations
of sexual assault or any illegal conduct.
It is worth noting that the case of Prince Andrew has remained
for years one of the most controversial cases in Britain.
Because of its broad political and media repercussions,
and its direct impact on the image of the royal family at home and abroad.
