Jakarta, Indonesia – The Indonesian island of Sumatra experienced a violent earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale,

This caused a wave of panic among local residents

who rushed outside to escape the dilapidated buildings.

Authorities reported that the epicenter of the earthquake

was below the Earth’s surface at a moderate depth.

This made the tremor felt in large areas of the island.

While no official tsunami warning has been issued yet.

Estimating the extent of damage

Emergency teams have also begun initial surveys to assess the extent of the damage.

Some residents reported cracks in houses and temporary power outages.

Government agencies urged citizens in Sumatra to exercise caution.

Stay away from unsafe buildings, and follow official instructions.

Seismic activity is frequent in Indonesia due to its location

within the “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean.

This makes it constantly vulnerable to similar earthquakes.
