Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held an important telephone conversation on Thursday with Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine.
This contact comes within the framework of ongoing coordination between the two sides to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the increasing escalation in the West Bank.
Emphasizing the constants of the Egyptian position and the political solution
Minister Abdel-Aati emphasized the firm principles of the Egyptian position, calling for the importance of establishing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the sector.
Likewise, work is underway to launch a political process based on international references and the principle of a two-state solution, embodying all the pillars and results of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit.
Discussion of Security Council Resolution 2803 and the International Stabilization Force
During the call, the two sides discussed the adoption by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2803 concerning the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The proposed arrangements related to the launch of the “International Stabilization Force” were discussed, given its expected role in monitoring the ceasefire and ensuring the flow of aid as hoped.
Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the need for these security arrangements to be temporary and transitional in nature.
The aim of the arrangements is to enable the Palestinian Authority to exercise all governance and security roles, in accordance with the principle of geographical contiguity between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Continued coordination on reconstruction
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of continuing joint coordination regarding the “International Conference for Early Recovery, Reconstruction and Development in the Gaza Strip”.
Both sides agreed to mobilize regional and international support to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of reconstruction plans. At the conclusion of the call, they agreed to continue close consultations in the coming period in support of Palestinian rights and efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the occupied territories.
