Rome, Italy – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni affirmed that the initiative proposed by the United States to end the war in Ukraine represents “a realistic basis upon which to build.” She also indicated that Rome views the American plan as a positive step towards restoring stability to the European continent.
Meloni stated in a press conference that the American proposals “include practical elements that would allow for the launch of a serious negotiating process.” She declared that any move that halts the conflict and guarantees Ukraine’s sovereignty deserves support. She also stressed that Europe needs a unified stance to support diplomatic efforts. She affirmed that the continuation of the war “is no longer an acceptable option” given its humanitarian and economic consequences.
Meloni’s remarks come at a time of intensified international efforts to revive the political process between Kyiv and Moscow. There are expectations that the US plan will help bring the parties back to the negotiating table after months of deadlock.
