Ankara, Turkey – The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday the temporary suspension of all flights by Turkish military C-130 aircraft. This follows the crash of a similar aircraft in Georgia last Tuesday (November 11).
The ministry explained that the decision was made to ensure safety following the accident, as sufficient data has not yet been collected to determine the cause of the crash, making continued flights unsafe. It added that all eighteen C-130 aircraft will undergo thorough inspections before any future flights resume.
The statement indicated that the black box of the crashed plane had been recovered and sent to Ankara, where authorities are continuing to analyze the data to determine the circumstances of the accident.
The military aircraft had taken off from Azerbaijan en route to Turkey before crashing in Georgian territory. The crash resulted in several deaths and injuries, in what Turkish authorities described as a “tragic” incident.
This decision comes as a precautionary measure to prevent any similar accidents. The Turkish military is awaiting the results of the technical investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash.
