  • A constitutional term that can be shortened… and the obstacle of convening

Baghdad, Iraq – Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council called on Thursday for the political parties and alliances that won seats in the parliamentary elections to expedite dialogue and reach agreements. This aims to form the new legislative (parliament) and executive (government) authorities within the constitutional timeframes.

The council offered its congratulations to the parties that won membership in the House of Representatives, wishing them success in their upcoming work.

The largest Sudanese coalition calls for dialogue

This invitation comes after the current Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, confirmed last night, following the announcement of the preliminary election results, that his coalition, “Reconstruction and Development,” is open to all national forces and will act responsibly.

The Reconstruction and Development Coalition, led by al-Sudani, won a majority of seats in the sixth parliamentary session. It garnered over 1.3 million votes, making it the largest bloc. This bloc will lead negotiations to form a government in agreement with other blocs, most notably the Shiite Coordination Framework.

A constitutional term that can be shortened… and the obstacle of convening

According to judicial sources, the constitutional process will begin after the commission certifies the final results. A request will be submitted to the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, to convene the new parliament within 15 days.

The current period is expected to open the door for political parties and parliamentary blocs, enabling them to engage in intensive dialogues and negotiations to shape the political landscape for the next four years.
