Berlin, Germany – The German government has sent officers from the Federal Police (Bundespolizei) to the Palestinian territories to help stabilize security in the region, according to confirmations from spokespeople for the Interior and Foreign Ministries.
A spokesman for the Interior Ministry explained that the decision was taken by Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt in coordination with Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul.
A team of German federal police experts was sent to the office of the US Security Coordinator for Israel in Jerusalem.
The team, which initially consisted of four police officers, arrived about two weeks ago.
The team’s mission is to “increase Germany’s contribution to strengthening civilian security forces” in the region, as part of international stabilization efforts.
