Tehran, Iran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed on Sunday that there is currently no possibility of resuming direct negotiations with the United States. Araqchi stressed that Tehran sees no point in any dialogue unless it is based on the principles of equality and mutual respect.
Araghchi stated in a press conference that “resuming negotiations is only possible when Washington is ready for an equal and mutually beneficial dialogue.” He added that “the American side has not yet shown any genuine willingness to do so.”
Trump’s simultaneous statements
The Iranian minister’s remarks coincide with statements made today by US President Donald Trump, in which he indicated his willingness to listen to any Iranian request regarding lifting sanctions.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated that “Iran has asked whether the sanctions can be lifted.” He also noted that his country “has imposed the toughest sanctions on Tehran, making it difficult for them to do many of the things they want.”
Trump indicated that he was “ready to listen to what Iran has to say.” However, he emphasized that “it’s too early to talk about any change in US policy.” The US president stressed the continuation of the maximum pressure campaign against Tehran during his second term. This is happening in parallel with a military escalation targeting Iranian sites.
These exchanges reflect the continued stalemate and hardening of positions between Tehran and Washington. This is happening amid the absence of any clear indications of an imminent breakthrough in the indirect negotiations between the two sides.
