Tehran, Iran – Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s chief negotiator and former deputy foreign minister, asserted that the Nobel Peace Prize lost its credibility long ago. It has transformed from a symbol of honoring peace advocates into a political tool used by Western powers to serve their interests and polish their image before the world.
Araghchi explained, in statements carried by Iranian media, that decisions to award the prize are no longer based on standards of justice and humanity, but rather on political calculations and international alliances. He pointed out that individuals and entities have received the prize without having played a genuine role in achieving peace or ending conflicts.
He added that the politicization of the Nobel Prize has caused it to lose the respect of people, especially in the Middle East. Many believe the prize is awarded to those who conform to the Western vision, not to those who genuinely work for a just peace.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that “true peace is not granted through awards or media applause. Rather, it is achieved through sincere work to stop wars and spread the values of understanding among peoples.”
