Prague, Czech Republic – The likely Czech Prime Minister, populist billionaire Andrej Babiš, signed a coalition government agreement on Monday (November 3, 2025) that includes far-right parties,
This brings him one step closer to forming the new government in Prague.
The agreement was signed with the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD).
And the right-wing “Drivers for Their Own” party, which focuses on car issues.
Majority coalition in the House of Representatives
The new coalition will secure a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives,
winning 108 out of 200 seats, distributed as follows:
Babiš’s ANO movement: 80 seats, Social Democratic Party (SPD): 15 seats,
The “Drivers for Themselves” party: 13 seats.
European concerns
Babiš is a giant agricultural magnate, and his success in the recent parliamentary elections
has raised widespread concerns in Brussels and among his opponents.
Because of the possibility of him forming anti-establishment alliances at the European level.
Local concerns have also been raised about a potential conflict of interest in Babich’s business dealings.
Despite these concerns, Czech President Petr Pavel Babiš chose to form the government last week.
Expectations of a change in the course of the European Union
The right-wing populist ANO movement, led by Babiš,
is likely to be the least extreme party in the next government.
The new coalition is expected to reduce support for EU initiatives related to migration and climate.
Like the ETS2 emissions trading system,
it will also fight Brussels’ attempts to ban combustion engines.
This move comes despite the controversy surrounding some members of the coalition.
The prospective “drivers'” foreign minister, Philippe Tureck,
was embroiled in a scandal involving alleged racist and sexist comments before entering politics.

After the coalition is formed, the president still needs to appoint the prime minister.
The new government must obtain a vote of confidence from lawmakers within 30 days.
