Herat, Afghanistan – Local authorities in Herat province, western Afghanistan, have announced the official launch of
a land distribution program for Afghan families returning from abroad.
In a move aimed at supporting the resettlement of citizens
and encouraging them to settle within the country.
According to local officials, six thousand acres of land (equivalent to about 1,200 hectares)
have been allocated for the creation of new residential communities for returnees.
The first phase of the project includes distributing land within
an area of three thousand acres to families who meet the eligibility criteria set by the authorities.
Officials explained that this step comes as part of government efforts
to address the internal displacement crisis.
And to provide a suitable environment for the reintegration of returning families into society.
They indicated that the distributed lands will be equipped with basic services
such as water, electricity, and sewage networks.
This is a prelude to establishing permanent housing for the beneficiary families.
Herat province is one of the provinces that has witnessed
an increasing return of Afghans from Iran and Pakistan in recent years.
This has posed challenges to infrastructure, employment opportunities, and housing.
Through this project, the authorities are working to achieve social and economic stability for these citizens.
And to reduce the pressure on major cities that receive large numbers of displaced people.
The program is expected to contribute to providing a safe living environment for returnees.
Strengthening local development efforts in western Afghanistan, in line with the government’s plans to rebuild conflict-affected areas.
