The European news site Euractiv warned that bureaucratic complexities and red tape within EU member states could hinder NATO’s ability to rapidly deploy its forces. This could happen in the event of a sudden crisis on the continent.
The report explained that the movement of military equipment and troops between member states continues to face obstacles. These obstacles relate to transit permits and logistical procedures, which weakens the effectiveness of the rapid deterrence strategy upon which the alliance relies.
The website noted that some military leaders are calling for urgent reforms to facilitate troop movements within Europe. They stressed that any delay in deployment could leave serious security gaps in the face of growing threats from the east.
