New York, USA – Days before the New York mayoral election, Democratic candidate Zahran Mamdani (34 years old) presented himself as the city’s strongest bulwark against President Donald Trump,
Pledging to pursue an aggressive legal strategy to counter any federal threats targeting the interests of the population.
In an interview with NBC News, Mamdani, who has made a rapid rise in the political arena this year, stressed,
This involves using all available legal tools to defend New York.
He indicated that he would rely on a strong alliance with
Governor Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Tish James on the front lines to confront any abuses.
Mamdani said: “What I will do is remind New Yorkers of their rights,
make it clear that this is not what we support,
take pride in our policies as a sanctuary city, and use the courts.”
He continued, “Many of the threats made by Donald Trump are not legal,
although he seems to believe they become so once they are said.”
Despite his escalating tone, Mamdani stressed that he is open to cooperating with Trump,
but only under clear conditions that serve the interests of the city’s residents first.
He added: “I would be prepared to have a dialogue about the cost of living if the president wishes.”
He adds, “If the president wants to talk about harming New Yorkers or sending more ICE agents to terrorize families,
Or regarding cuts to the city budget, I will not agree to that. I will resist it.”
Mamdani also declined to express confidence in Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer,
He stressed that accelerating housing construction would be a priority in his program if he won the mayoral election.
This is in light of the focus on improving the affordability of living for the city’s residents.
