Belgrade, Serbia – Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic again accused Türkiye of influencing the decisions of regional countries, after Syria officially recognized the independence of Kosovo,
a move that angered Belgrade, which considers Kosovo part of its territory.
During his visit to Uzbekistan, Vucic told reporters that Damascus’s recognition of Kosovo “was expected”.
He noted that “Türkiye exerts considerable influence over the current Syrian government.”
He added: “This step demonstrates how important the free
and independent stance of Ahmed al-Sharaa’s government is to us.”
It appears that the decision was the result of a clear regional influence.”
The Serbian president explained that his country had been expecting this move for some time.
This is due to what he described as “increasing Türkiye political pressure”
on some countries in the Middle East and the Balkans.
He stressed that Belgrade would continue to defend its position of refusing
any recognition of Kosovo’s secession.
This development comes after an official announcement from
the Syrian government recognizing Kosovo’s independence,
making Damascus the latest country in the Middle East to take this stance.
At a time when relations between Ankara and Belgrade are witnessing
increasing tension due to several regional issues.
The Kosovo issue is considered one of the most sensitive issues in Serbian politics,
as Belgrade refuses to recognize the region’s secession since it declared independence in 2008.
While it is recognized by more than one hundred countries around the world,
including the United States, European Union countries and Turkey.
