Venezuela – Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro revealed that his country’s intelligence services had thwarted what he described as a CIA plot. The aim was to carry out attacks against US ships, with the goal of creating a pretext to accuse Venezuela of responsibility.
In a televised address, Maduro stated that “CIA agents attempted to recruit individuals within the country to carry out maritime sabotage operations against American interests.” He added that security forces had completely dismantled the network and arrested those involved.
The Venezuelan president added that the operation aimed to turn international public opinion against Caracas. He emphasized that his country “will not allow itself to be dragged into fabricated confrontations,” at a time of escalating tensions between Washington and Caracas. This comes against the backdrop of US sanctions and ongoing political disagreements between the two sides.
