Tallinn, Estonia – NATO announced that its forces intercepted an unidentified drone that approached a US base in Estonia and shot it down before it posed any threat to the military facility.
The alliance statement confirmed that air defenses detected the aircraft flying
at a low altitude and heading towards the base.
This prompted a swift intervention by joint US and Estonian forces.
It was dealt with successfully without any losses.
NATO officials explained that investigations are underway to determine the origin of the aircraft.
Amid concerns that it may be part of a reconnaissance
or security testing operation by a hostile entity.
The incident comes at a time of increasing tension in the region
between Russia and the Baltic states.
The alliance has intensified its military presence to protect its eastern borders.
Amid warnings of a possible new escalation in
the indirect confrontation between Moscow and NATO.
