Rome, Italy – Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said that Europe needs a “convergence of national forces” to defend the continent. He indicated that the process has already begun but will not be immediate.
In an interview with Sky TG24, Crozzetto added that Europe cannot be compared to the United States militarily because it comprises 27 different countries. The minister explained that some sectors are extremely weak due to divisions among these nations, necessitating a common approach. He emphasized that establishing a unified European defense system will take decades.
Crozzetto pointed out that “defense depends primarily on a perception of power.” He emphasized that the United States is concerned about a potential confrontation with China. As a result, Europe will have to ensure its own security.
The Italian minister expressed his concern about the situation in Africa. He pointed out that Russia and China are working daily on the continent to secure mineral resources, water, and fertile land. Furthermore, they are presenting the population with the image that the enemy is the West and Europe.
