European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the Nordic countries represent the “North Star of Europe” and serve as a model for the rest of the EU. She noted that their experience in cooperation and joint defense provides “a model for all of Europe.”

This came in a message on the occasion of the Nordic Prime Ministers’ Meeting, hosted by Sweden today and also attended by the President of the European Commission. Von der Leyen stated that the meeting will focus on strengthening the civil preparedness and competitiveness of the Nordic countries, stressing that the European Union must assume greater responsibility for collective defense and geopolitical challenges.
