Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump praised Japan’s first female prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, during his official visit to Japan. This came after agreements were signed to enhance trade cooperation in energy, artificial intelligence, and rare earths. Supplies of essential minerals were also secured to reduce dependence on China.
Takaichi also pledged to increase Japanese defense spending to 2% of GDP. Trump welcomed Japan’s purchase of more American defense equipment, including F-35 missiles. In addition, the two countries signed investment agreements involving major companies such as Mitsubishi, SoftBank, Hitachi, Murata, Panasonic, and Toyota. These companies will open $10 billion in new factories in the United States.
On the diplomatic front, Trump met with relatives of North Korean abductees, affirming US support for Japan in pursuing the abductees’ case. Meanwhile, Takaichi emphasized her commitment to building a new chapter in the Japan-US alliance.
