WASHINGTON, United States – US President Donald Trump has revealed a possible cause he described as “extraordinary” behind a series of air crashes involving fighter jets from the US aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in the South China Sea over the holiday weekend.
In exclusive statements to Fox News, Trump said that initial investigations indicate “unconventional factors may be behind these incidents.” He added that some initial reports “point to a recurring electronic glitch in the navigation and flight control systems.” He did not specify whether the incident was the result of a technical failure or external electronic interference.
Two planes crashed
The US Navy announced earlier that two of its fighter jets crashed during night training operations. The pilots were able to eject and were rescued safely. Technical teams have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incidents.
Aircraft Carriers
The USS Nimitz is one of the most prominent US aircraft carriers operating in the Indo-Pacific region. It is currently participating in joint naval exercises as part of the strategy to deter Chinese military expansion in the South China Sea.
Trump said, “These incidents are absolutely unnatural, and something is going on behind the scenes.” He suggested the possibility of “deliberate disruption or hacking.” He added, “We have intelligence and technical teams working to uncover the truth, and we will announce the results soon.”
These developments come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Beijing following a series of Chinese military exercises near Taiwan. Repeated US responses affirm its commitment to freedom of navigation in the region.
US military circles fear that these incidents are part of a covert cyber war, one taking place in one of the world’s most strategically tense regions.
