BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – The Libertadores Progress Party (LLA), led by Argentine President Javier Milei,
won a landslide victory in the midterm elections, receiving 40.81% of the vote.
Far ahead of the main left-wing coalition, Forza Patria, which received 31.6% of the vote.
The biggest surprise was in the capital, Buenos Aires,
where the Macri coalition won 41.53% of the vote.
Outperforming his Peronist rivals, who received 40.84%.
This progress is significant after Milei suffered a 14-point loss in the previous elections
in the capital just a month and a half ago.
Election details
The elections resulted in the election of 24 members to the Senate, equivalent to one-third of the members.
In addition to 127 members of the House of Representatives.
The Milei Party is expected to strengthen its control over the legislative councils after these elections.
It will have 93 seats in the House of Representatives, compared to the current 37 seats.
The Freedom Progress Party is also expected to win 19 seats in the Senate,
This represents more than three times its current number of 6 seats.
Although Milei did not obtain an absolute majority, this result would give him a sufficient majority,
This is to ensure the passage of his ambitious reform projects,
which he launched in December 2023.
Which enhances his ability to implement radical economic and social reforms.
Participation rate
This is the lowest turnout in a legislative election since the return of democracy to Argentina in 1983.
