Washington, United States – The Wall Street Journal revealed that US President Donald Trump is in talks with the Navy and the Pentagon about developing an entirely new fleet of warships. It is being described within military circles as the “Golden Fleet.” This plan is part of bolstering US naval capabilities in the face of China and “potential future threats.”
The newspaper quoted US officials, who requested anonymity, as saying that the White House and the Department of Defense are studying the design of a next-generation armored ship. It could weigh between 15,000 and 20,000 tons and be equipped with advanced weapons systems, including hypersonic missiles. It will also include smaller vessels, such as corvettes, designed for rapid deployment.
According to sources, Trump personally participated in several discussions regarding the specifications and strategic direction of the new fleet. It aims to replace existing warships with more advanced capabilities in terms of firepower, self-defense systems, and naval technology.
The newspaper said that the project, which naval officials have tentatively dubbed the “Golden Fleet,” seeks to build a new generation of destroyers and cruisers equipped with modern electronic systems and superior offensive and defensive capabilities. This is part of a long-term plan to expand the size of the US Navy, which currently comprises about 287 ships. The fleet includes destroyers, cruisers, aircraft carriers, amphibious ships, and nuclear submarines.
According to the report, this initiative is seen as part of the Trump administration’s vision to restore American military superiority. This is particularly necessary in the seas and oceans, amid escalating competition with China and Russia in military technology and naval capabilities.
