Tehran, Iran – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed that the duties of the president in the Islamic Republic are not exercised in isolation from the directives of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Stressing that any future or current president must adhere to the roadmap set by the Supreme Leader, as the supreme authority of the state.
During his visit to West Azerbaijan Province, Pezeshkian said,
according to the (arn) website: “I cannot act as a president by making any decision I want and everyone obeys me.”
Then the next president comes along and makes different decisions as he pleases,”
Explaining that “everyone appointed to the state must implement the vision explained by the leader.”
Pezeshkian, a reformist politician and former health minister, belongs to the moderate movement.
Which calls for economic reforms and relative openness to the West, while preserving the regime’s constants.
His last statement was described as a reassuring message to the religious establishment and the Revolutionary Guards,
That his administration will not deviate from the broad lines drawn by the Supreme Leader,
Especially on sensitive issues such as the nuclear program, regional relations, and the tense relationship with the United States.
The statement also reflects Pezeshkian’s awareness of the Iranian political reality,
which gives the Supreme Leader absolute authority over state institutions.
Including the government, parliament and judiciary,
Pointing out that the “Leader’s Vision” is the basic reference for formulating public policies.
Observers said that through these messages, Pezeshkian seeks to consolidate his position in the power structure
and gain the confidence of the conservative movement.
This comes at a time when Iran is facing stifling economic challenges and increasing pressures both internally and externally.
