Rome, Italy – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed that her country will support the upcoming European Union sanctions against a number of Israeli officials. She also stressed Rome’s commitment to the two-state solution as the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
Meloni said, in statements reported by Italian media, that the Italian government “is coordinating its positions with its European partners to ensure a unified stance on the crisis in the Middle East.” She noted that any measures taken against Tel Aviv are within the framework of respect for international humanitarian law and the principles of justice.
She added that Rome continues to support diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating the situation and protecting civilians, stressing that “security cannot be achieved solely through force, but rather through political solutions that guarantee the rights of both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.”
Meloni also called on the international community to intensify its efforts to revive the stalled peace negotiations. She stressed that Italy “will not back down from its firm position in supporting the two-state solution as the basis for the stability and future of the region.”
