BUDAPEST, Hungary – Caroline Leavitt, the White House press secretary for US President Donald Trump, sparked widespread controversy after responding to a reporter with the sarcastic phrase “your mother.”
This occurred during a text conversation with a HuffPost reporter, sparking a debate about the White House communications team’s behavior and how they interact with the media.
According to Middle East Eye and American media outlets, the incident began when journalist S.V. Dati asked Levitt about an upcoming meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary.
It is the city where the Budapest Memorandum was signed in 1994, providing security guarantees for Ukraine after it renounced nuclear weapons.
Levitt responded to his question with a brief statement, “Your mother did it.”
She then followed up her response with an offensive message in which she accused the reporter of being a “biased left-wing journalist who no one takes seriously.”
Considering that his questions aim to “distort the image of the Republican administration.”

In the face of criticism, Levitt posted a screenshot of the conversation on X (formerly Twitter),
Justifying her action by saying that she wanted to clarify the “full context” of the response,
She asserted that the journalist “is not objective and represents a democratic agenda.”
For his part, journalist Dati simply responded by saying: “Are you feeling better now?”
“Can you answer the question?” she asked, sarcastically referring to the speaker’s ignoring of the main topic.
It is noteworthy that the Trump administration relies heavily on social media and political memes to address the public and defend its policies.
Trump himself uses his Truth Social platform to post satirical videos and clips targeting his political opponents and mobilizing his supporters.
