Russia – In a scene reminiscent of Cold War summits but with a 21st-century twist, the Kremlin revealed the latest preparations for the upcoming summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
Amid global anticipation of the major shifts it may bring about in the international power equation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that preparations are “progressing with extreme precision and at the highest level,” explaining that the meeting “will be frank and direct.”
It touches on issues of international security, bilateral relations, the future of the conflict in Ukraine, and Western sanctions imposed on Moscow.
Peskov emphasized that President Putin is “ready for a constructive dialogue based on equality and mutual respect,” noting that Russia views the summit as a platform for correcting the international course after years of tension and escalation.
Messages exchanged before the meeting
Senior Russian sources described the summit as a “date with history,” while circles close to Trump confirmed that he “intends to present a new vision for ending the war in Ukraine and easing nuclear tensions between East and West.”
The meeting comes months after Trump made provocative statements about his willingness to “restore order to the Western world” if he returned to the White House. These statements have raised concerns within NATO and Europe alike.
Budapest becomes the center of global events
The Hungarian capital is preparing to host the summit amid unprecedented security measures and a heavy international media presence. The European press has dubbed it the “Summit of Two Storms,” a reference to the personalities of Putin and Trump, who have long confounded international politics.
Analysts believe that the outcome of the meeting could represent a major turning point in the course of the international conflict, especially in light of escalating tensions between Russia and the West and the growing calls for political settlements that would restore some of the lost stability to the world.
As we await the decisive moment, the world’s eyes turn to Budapest, where the contours of the future international order may be drawn.
