Norway – The Norwegian government expressed its deep regret over Venezuela’s decision to close its embassy in the capital, Oslo.

Describing the move as unfortunate and unjustified at this time,

Stressing at the same time its keenness to maintain friendly relations between the two countries.

Maintaining channels of dialogue and diplomacy

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement that Oslo was and remains keen to maintain open channels of dialogue and diplomacy with all countries.

Noting that the closure of the Venezuelan embassy will not affect Norway’s commitment to continuing bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The statement added that Norway views its relationship with Venezuela as particularly important, both politically and humanitarianly.

Oslo played a pivotal role.

Especially since Oslo has played a pivotal role over the past years in mediation efforts between the Venezuelan government and the opposition.

This is in order to restore stability in the country.

Venezuela recently announced the closure of a number of its diplomatic missions in Europe,

This is part of a plan to restructure its network of foreign embassies, in light of the economic pressures facing Caracas.

Supporting the Venezuelan people and efforts to achieve peace

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by stressing that its country will continue to support the Venezuelan people and efforts to achieve peace in Latin America.

Expressing hope that Venezuela would reconsider the decision and resume its diplomatic activity in Oslo as soon as possible.
