Sydney, Australia – A man opened fire on a crowded street in Sydney, before being arrested.
Australian police reported that 20 people were injured in the incident.
Police also added that the suspect “was shooting at passing vehicles indiscriminately, including police vehicles”.
“Between 50 and 100 rounds”
Stephen Barry of New South Wales Police also revealed that “there were between 50 and 100 gunshots”.
Two hours later, police arrested a sixty-year-old man suspected of being the shooter in an apartment.
He was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries he received during his arrest.
The police also reported that the condition of one of the injured in this incident was “serious”, while 19 other people were treated for injuries caused mainly by glass shards.
Rare
It is noteworthy that such shootings are rare in Australia.
Since an incident of this kind in 1996 in Tasmania that resulted in 35 deaths, automatic and semi-automatic weapons have been banned in Australia.
