Cairo, Egypt – In a dramatic development, the Moldovan embassy in central Brussels was plunged into chaos after a bomb threat was reported inside the building. This coincided with the start of parliamentary elections in the country. Belgian authorities confirmed that all officials and voters were evacuated pending confirmation of the site’s safety, amid apparent tensions among employees and citizens.

Two officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the European newspaper Politico that police found no evidence of a real threat. After a thorough investigation, the relevant authorities confirmed that the report was false. Voting at the embassy was allowed to resume after obtaining official approvals.

This incident comes amid warnings from Moldovan officials of widespread disinformation campaigns. There are attempts to pressure voters, tactics previously used in last year’s presidential elections. Citizens are awaiting the preliminary results amidst an atmosphere of anxiety and heightened surveillance.

Embassy and Potential Risks

This evacuation highlights the vulnerability of security at diplomatic missions during sensitive electoral events. It also raises questions about the authorities’ ability to respond to and prevent future fake security threats.
