Cairo, Egypt – Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk asserted that US President Donald Trump’s recent statements regarding the war in Ukraine reflect a US trend. This trend shows a move toward reducing Washington’s role in the conflict, and Europe bears the greatest responsibility for ending it.
In a post on the X platform on Thursday evening, Tusk said that Trump’s recent words “hid behind the sudden optimism a declaration that the United States is withdrawing from the heart of the confrontation. It is also shifting the burden of the war to Europe.”
Trump’s provocative statements
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform this week that “Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is able to fight and reclaim all of its territory in its original form.”
Tusk interpreted this message as a hint of a gradual US withdrawal from the Ukrainian issue. This move places the European continent in direct confrontation with Russia.
Europe in a new test
Trump’s statements, according to observers, reflect a new phase in the geopolitical equation of the Ukrainian conflict. The European Union will now have to determine whether it is capable of leading military and political support for Kyiv. This will occur without the usual American cover. Analysts believe these developments open the door to a split within NATO over burden distribution. This situation puts Poland—one of Kyiv’s most prominent supporters—in a more advanced position. They are seeking to demand a more robust European policy toward Moscow.
