Deir ez-Zor, Syria – The Syrian Democratic Forces “SDF” announced the killing of 5 of its fighters while confronting an attack carried out by the terrorist organization ISIS in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in northeastern Syria.
Since 2014, the extremist organization has controlled large areas in Syria and neighboring Iraq.
He also announced the establishment of the “Islamic Caliphate” until his defeat from Iraq in 2017, then Syria in 2019.
But it is still active in remote desert areas, although they do not control any areas.
Since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad on December 8, 2024, the pace of the organization’s attacks in areas controlled by the new administration has declined.
But it rose in Kurdish-controlled areas.
The Syrian Democratic Forces said that while its fighters were confronting an attack carried out by the organization that targeted “a concentration point for our forces in the town of Al-Bahra Al-Wusta, east of Deir Ezzor, this morning, 5 of our comrades were martyred, and another fighter was injured in violent confrontations that took place during the thwarting of the attack.”
She added that her fighters repelled the attack and “were able to thwart the terrorist plot and impose field control.”
In addition, it reported that its forces are continuing “combing operations and pursuing terrorist elements to eliminate them in the Al-Hadath area to ensure the security of the people and eradicate hotbeds of danger”.
The Syrian Democratic Forces control the eastern bank of the Euphrates River, which divides Deir ez-Zor Governorate, which borders Iraq, into two parts.
These forces led a military campaign that led to the defeat of the extremist organization from its last strongholds in Syria in 2019.
