Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump on Monday designated the leftist Antifa movement a domestic terrorist organization.
The White House said: “Antifa is a chaotic military movement that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States government, security authorities, and our legal system”. Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, it has been designated a domestic terrorist organization.
Trump announced the move last week.
Antifa is a left-wing anti-fascist and anti-racist political movement. It is not a central organization, but a loose network of groups and individuals.
This designation comes 12 days after the killing of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk. This incident further deepened political division in the United States.
Trump’s order against Antifa did not directly refer to Kirk’s murder.

American research centers and human rights organizations confirm that the movement does not have a clear organizational structure. They also note that it lacks specific leadership.
Not much is known about the motives of the 22-year-old suspect in Kirk’s murder.
But Trump immediately pointed the finger at “the rhetoric coming from the far left”.
Critics accused him of increasing tensions rather than adopting a conciliatory tone.
Kirk’s killing is one of a series of politically motivated acts of violence that the United States has witnessed recently. These acts target both Democrats and Republicans.
