Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sverdenko confirmed that the roof and upper floors of the government headquarters building in Kiev were damaged following a Russian attack.
This was due to a violent Russian strike on Sunday morning.
“The roof and upper floors were damaged by an enemy attack,” Sverdenko said in a post on Telegram.
She added, “Rescue teams are working to extinguish the fire”.
This came after Ukrainian officials announced earlier on Sunday that two people were killed and 11 others were injured in a major Russian march attack on Kiev. Smoke was rising from the roof of a major government building.
A one-year-old child was killed
The head of the Kiev city administration, Timur Tkachenko, also reported that among the dead was a one-year-old child. This child’s body was recovered from under the rubble by rescuers.
For his part, the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, said that the wreckage of the Russian marches hit a residential building in the Svyatoshinsky neighborhood. Another building was hit in the Darnitsky neighborhood in Kiev.
Friendship Pipeline
On the other hand, the commander of the Ukrainian Marching Forces unit, Robert Brovdi, said that Ukraine attacked the “Drogba” oil pipeline, also known as the “Friendship” pipeline, in the Russian Bryansk region.
Brovdi also added in a post on Telegram that “comprehensive damage resulting from the fire” had been caused to the pipeline.
The pipeline is used to export Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia.
The power of “reassurance”
These developments come as about 20 countries, led by France and Britain, pledged on Thursday to join a “reassurance” force. This force would monitor the implementation of any agreement to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
But Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the presence of any Western forces in Ukraine. He considered that they would be a legitimate target for his army.
US President Donald Trump’s efforts in recent weeks to end the three-and-a-half-year war have yielded no significant results.
