Sanaa, Yemen – A Yemeni source reported on Sunday that gunmen affiliated with the Houthi group stormed UN relief agencies in the capital, Sanaa, and arrested several employees.
The source, speaking to the German News Agency (DPA), stated that Houthi militants stormed the headquarters of the United Nations World Food Organization and UNICEF. They apprehended a number of workers.
The source further clarified that the Houthis arrested approximately 7 employees from the World Food Organization and 3 others from UNICEF.
The source revealed that the gunmen took the detainees to an undisclosed location. The reasons behind the storming of the two organizations and the arrest of their employees remain unclear, and the Houthi group has yet to issue any comment on this matter.
It is noteworthy that this arrest campaign occurred a day after the Houthis announced the killing of their Prime Minister, Ahmed al-Rahwi, and several of his ministers in an Israeli attack during a meeting in Sanaa last Thursday.
The Houthi group has a history of arresting employees working for the United Nations, with some of these individuals still in prison.
The Houthis have previously accused numerous employees of international and UN organizations of spying for the United States. However, these claims have faced criticism from those allied with Iran.
