Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine – The governor of Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk announced early Saturday morning that the region was under “major attack”.
He pointed out that there were strikes in Dnipro and Pavlograd.
“The region is under major attack,” Sergey Lisak wrote on Telegram. You hear explosions.
Since the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, Dnepropetrovsk Oblast has remained largely untouched by the fighting.
But Kiev admitted on Tuesday that Russian forces had entered the region, where Moscow confirmed that it had made progress on the ground.
It is noteworthy that the Dnepropetrovsk region is not among the five Ukrainian regions that Moscow announced its annexation.
These regions are Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Crimea.
Battle of Pokrovsk
Fierce battles are taking place in Donetsk along the front line, and in the Pokrovsk and Seversk regions, in particular.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that Moscow had mobilized about 100,000 soldiers near Pokrovsk, the main city in eastern Ukraine.
At a time when stagnation dominates international efforts to achieve peace in the country.
Zelensky told reporters that the situation in the Pokrovsk region “is the most worrying today”.
He pointed out that Russia has mobilized “up to 100,000 soldiers there.” They are preparing for offensive operations anyway.
He added that Ukrainian forces are working to confront Russian forces in the Sumy region on the northeastern border.
Why Pokrovsk?
Pokrovsk, which had a pre-war population of about 60,000 people, is an important logistical center for Ukrainian forces.
It is located at the intersection of several roads in the area.
Russian forces have been approaching the city from three directions for several months, and are now less than 5 kilometers away.
The day before yesterday, Thursday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Russian army took control of the town of Nelipovka in Donetsk.
“The town of Nilipovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic has been liberated,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
She added that this was the result of decisive measures taken by units of the Russian Southern Group forces.
In northern Donetsk, near the border with Luhansk province, Russian forces are now half a kilometer away from the town of Seversk, which is currently under the control of Ukrainian forces, which are striving to preserve it and prevent it from falling into the hands of Russian forces.
Russian military expert Andrei Marochko reported that Russian forces are now 500 meters away from the town of Seversk.
“For Seversk, there are successes for our forces,” he said. Recently, our soldiers advanced northeast of this town, along the railway, reducing the distance to the urban agglomeration by 500 metres.
Marochko noted that active battles are taking place near Seversk.
At the same time, “the Ukrainian Forces Command is making efforts to ensure the stability and stabilization of the front”, because the Russian army is also advancing south of the city.
