Sulaymaniyah, Iraq – A security force arrested the leader of the People’s Front in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Lahore Sheikh Janki.
This came after clashes that lasted for about 4 hours in “Lalazar” in Sulaymaniyah.
A security source told the Rudaw media network that Lahore arrested Sheikh Janki and two of his brothers, Bulad and Aso, in clashes in Sulaymaniyah.
The same source reported that the brother, Boulad Sheikh Janki, was arrested with injuries. He had refused to surrender himself to the security forces.
Reports indicated that 3 people were killed and 20 others were injured. This was a result of clashes that included the arrest.
Security Investigation Court
According to reports, on Thursday morning, in accordance with Article 56 of the Iraqi Penal Code, the Sulaymaniyah Security Investigation Court issued an arrest warrant. It was for Lahore Sheikh Janki, leader of the People’s Front.
It is noteworthy that since August 21, an arrest warrant has been issued against Lahore Sheikh Janki. A large force surrounded his house.
The court says an arrest warrant has been issued for Lahore Sheikh Janki.
Earlier, the Governor of Sulaymaniyah, Haval Abu Bakr, stated in a statement that the clashes between security forces and Lahore forces, Sheikh Janki, will not solve any problem. He called on everyone to help end this “undesirable” situation.
Since Thursday evening, large numbers of security forces have been deployed near the Lalazar Hotel in Sulaymaniyah. This is where Lahore Sheikh Janki resides.
After 3 a.m. Friday, the clash broke out, and according to videos obtained by Rudaw, fire and smoke rose from the Lalazar Hotel.
The anti-terrorism forces of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan headed towards the headquarters of Lahore Sheikh Janki. They fought a fierce battle with Janki’s forces.
Rudaw Network quoted him as saying in a video message: “These friends (the leadership of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) decided to attack.”
“This may be my last message, and I will starve to death,” he added.
“I could have gone to Europe to live a decent life,” he said. “But for the sake of the Kurdish people, I decided to stay here and not submit to any repressive force.”
He added, “I have proven my Kurdishness throughout the four parts of Kurdistan, and I love you, Kurdish people”. I kiss the eyes of all Kurds one by one.”
